Ever since the project’s inception as a multi-protocol chat client back in 2003 collaboration has been at the heart of Jitsi. Protocols came and went and now thanks to WebRTC anyone can use Jitsi Meet for their video conferencing needs pretty much anywhere.

2020 will go in the history books as a really unusual year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic millions of people had to stay home and continue working. This situation put companies, families, schools and many more through a very rough test. People had to change the way they worked. They had to hack from home, and they needed the tools to do this effectively. We were fortunate enough to help by answering the call of duty and offering a free video conferencing platform anyone could use: meet.jit.si We are hardly alone in this one. Other companies such as Mattermost and their messaging collaboration tools are essential for any form of productive remote work.

Today we are thrilled to announce that we’ve teamed up with Mattermost and will be co-hosting a virtual hackathon, our first one no less! Hacking from Home: Thriving in a Remote Environment. The goal of this hackathon is to build atop the existing platforms in order to further improve remote work for everyone, anywhere.

The hackathon will take place November 10-17 of 2020 and yes, there will be prizes! Go check all the details and sign-up on the event’s website.
